Grinding Keep (DCC) by Goodman Games

The DCC Day 2024 adventure: “For DCC RPG, you’ll find The Grinding Keep, a level 1 adventure by Marc Bruner. A wealthy benefactor needs to party to recover a powerful magic item for a lonely manor, but the PCs discover not all is as it seems in the remote abode. Can they escape with both the object of their quest and their lives intact?”

Played this at a local game store for DCC Day 2024. We got started late so ran into a second session. Lots of fun, some definite nail-biting moments. A superb finale, lots of puzzle/problem solving. Good challenges, and has a very DCC “the character you start with isn’t the character you finish with” vibe.

Play Time: Two sessions, 4 hours each.

General Thoughts: I tend to run a less gonzo, more sword and sorcery game. DCC, as I often say, is the Spinal Tap of dungeon-crawling RPGs – “This one goes to 11.” As long as you approach DCC with a laissez-faire approach to rules, character survival, outcomes, magic, combat, and all those other elements, it’s fantastic. DCC isn’t a Rules As Written game.

This adventure was an exclusive, and I don’t think it is available online. I looked at Goodman Games’s website and didn’t find it listed for sale.
