Overview
- Getting ready to run Paizo’s Kingmaker with some modifications.
- Instead of the Stolen Lands, I’m setting it in The Swordlands, a fantasy analogue of the Czech Republic
- There’s an open call from Lady Simone Kravmenko of Taarka to settle a region called The Swordlands that borders the southern edge of Taarka
- They’re often regarded as a no-man’s land full of bandits, goblins, manticores, and worse
- Kravmenko has authorized several adventuring groups, the Wednesday players are just one of them (frenemies!)
- I made a hex map of the Czech Republic using a topography map
- For terrain hexes, I used the same terrain types as Thorfinn Tait’s simple maps from the Mystara Atlas project
- The map uses 6-mile hexes, which is a kind of industry standard for RPG hex crawls. Total size is approx. 160 miles north-south, and 300 miles east-west
- I also made a climate map, useful for determining weather in any given part of the Swordlands

Climate Map + Analogues
- N Swordlands = Prague, Czech Rep.
- SW Swordlands = Lysa Hora Mt Range, Czech Republic
- SE Swordlands = Bohemian Forest, Czech Rep./Germany
Swordlands Climate
- It is currently mid-autumn – the weather is 50F during the day and 40F during the night
- The northern Swordlands have wet summers, dry spring and autumn, and snowy winters
- The SW Swordlands are mountainous and rainy year round, with snowy winters
- The SE Swordlands are rainy mid-year, drying out significantly during winter – lighter snow
