Summary
The party began their journey from the city of Pitden, traveling through grasslands and sparsely populated farmland. They observed mounted patrols with pennants waving in the wind, keeping watch for enemies and bandits. After traveling about twenty miles north, they came upon fallow fields being prepared for planting as night began to fall.
Seeking shelter, they arrived at a communal farm compound where Ragnar gained entry by claiming to be a priest. The compound was bustling with activity, housing goats, sheep, and oxen, run by religious folk in colorful garb and horse hair belts. When they discovered the farmer’s teenage daughter was blind, Ragnar attempted to heal her but failed. They called in their ally Guthlaug, an orc priest of St. Terragnis, who successfully healed the girl. In gratitude, the commune gifted them Junior, a massive 400-pound boar, and lots of handmade soap.
The party made their way to the Temple of Yallos, an ancient elven structure built of white alabaster blocks. Using Junior to clear a path through the brambles, they lit oil lamps on elven statues, which summoned a mysterious wooden female figure who identified herself as a servant of Yallos. Inside, they discovered Celestial sigils warning about imprisoned demons, and Sagie attempted a light spell that backfired, causing him to glow bright purple for an hour.
Descending into the temple’s basement, they discovered empty sarcophagi and gates blocking bone chambers. Upon opening the gates, they faced animated bone swarms. The battle was fierce, with Slant throwing oil on the bone piles and Thru breaking free after being temporarily engulfed. Junior proved helpful by consuming some of the bones, and eventually, the swarms were defeated, exploding into dust.
In the temple’s main chamber, they found a chamber with four stone statues holding urns, marked with “Give generously” in Elvish. After Sagie placed coins in statue urns, mist filled the room and a crimson circle rose, revealing a twelve-foot clay figure with an emerald embedded in its forehead. Thru successfully extracted the emerald from its forehead, causing the golem to dissolve. The emerald, worth 200 gold pieces, granted Sagie’s mace a +2 bonus when stored within it.
The party then encountered strange mushroom folk with toadstool heads who attempted telepathic communication. These creatures tried to capture Junior and party members to convert them to their ‘cycle of life.’ When Slant shot an arrow at them, combat ensued, and the mushroom folk extinguished the party’s only torch. In the darkness, the party split up, with Thru and Junior escaping via an underground river.
Thru and Junior were briefly brought to a phosphorescent cave where they encountered a floating orb creature with six eye-stalked tendrils, surrounded by a dozen mushroom folk. They managed to escape by jumping into a wide river, eventually emerging from a spring where they reunited with the rest of the party.
The adventure concluded with the party returning to town to sell their loot, particularly the soap from the commune. Ragnar contributed 85 gold for a night of carousing, during which the group pulled a prank on a merchant and gained a city watch ally. Most importantly, Thru formed a special bond with Junior the pig, who gained advantage on morale checks due to Thru’s feeding and attention.
