About halfway through listening to Crusader’s Road, a Pathfinder audiobook. The narrator is good, the plot is decent, and it’s Little House on the Prairie with ogre-kin and devious fantasy politics. I found myself thinking, “I wonder if there’s a sequel,” which is always promising.
It’s very Pathfinder, so kind of a kitchen sink generic fantasy world, but the specific setting is Echo Wood, a semi-sentient forest, and a family’s attempts to settle there. Ignoring the whole Golarion metaconcept, it’s competently written and I appreciate the main character(s), which are experiencing some growth and maturity.
I’m unsure if there will be a crash landing at the end, but I’m 5 hours in and enjoying it. I’ll post an update once I’m finished.
