Swyvers: The Coil, Ep 1

Vincent’s Lickers ventured deeper into the strange facility, leaving Obys’s Carnival Ride behind for an elevator operated by a nervous, hunchbacked gnome named Grimly. The lift ascended to an unexpected office floor, a stark, sterile cubicle farm smelling of paper, ink, and faint rot. As they explored, an overworked employee asked them to help dispose of a body, a task Nabi promptly delegated to the young apprentice, Titch. Nabi, feigning authority, then strode towards the supervisor’s office to inquire about their cursed phylactery.

Inside, Supervisor Quill was less than helpful, stating that such matters were above his pay grade and required access to the upper floors, which required a key. After a failed attempt at persuasion, Nabi successfully bribed the supervisor with a fine bottle of liquor. While they shared a drink, Clementine stealthily attempted to break into a locked cabinet in the office, but the lock proved too sturdy. With the bribe paid, Quill escorted the party to a freight elevator, using his key to grant them passage upwards.

The elevator opened into a chaotic workshop, thick with the smell of bile, grease, and burning metal. Here, cyborg workers with limbs replaced by tools and blades toiled over various animatronics. The centerpiece was a large animatronic bear, twitching and growling on a workbench. As the party approached, the bear suddenly sprang to life and attacked. The Vittle-Lickers were thrown into a vicious fight, with Vincent taking a heavy blow before the party rallied. With coordinated strikes, they tore the mechanical beast apart.

Following the workers’ directions, they proceeded to the ‘registration’ center, only to find a gruesome scene: several technicians forcibly attempting to replace a man’s hands with prosthetics against his will. The party intervened, sparking a bloody brawl. They quickly dispatched the first three techs, but their victory was short-lived as the boss—a woman with a sword for a leg—arrived with four more cyborg minions, leaving the party outnumbered and locked in a desperate battle as the session came to a close.

  • The session ended mid-combat, with one minion defeated and the boss engaging Nabi.

NPCs:

  • Cyborg Techs: Workers on the upper floors whose limbs have been replaced with various tools, blades, and scientific instruments. They serve as the facility’s guards and workforce.
  • Grimly: A small, hunchbacked gnome with frantic, nervous energy. He operates the elevator from the carnival area to the office floor, wearing an oversized, grease-stained bellhop uniform.
  • Shambling Harrys: Standard undead creatures, similar to zombies or golems, found standing inert in the warehouse area of the office floor.
  • Stitch: A technician who was about to have his hands forcibly replaced by his colleagues. The party saved him, and he has joined them in the ensuing fight.
  • Supervisor Quill: A middle manager overseeing the office floor. He is easily bribed with fine liquor and seems to know very little about the facility’s true purpose, deferring all important matters to his superiors.
  • The Boss Lady: The formidable leader of the facility’s operations. She is a skilled fighter who has replaced one of her legs with a sword, which she wields with deadly intent.
  • Titch: A young apprentice who was ‘adopted’ by the party. He follows them around and assists with tasks when asked, such as helping to dispose of a dead body.

ITEMS:

  • Animatronic Bear Head: The head of the destroyed animatronic bear, salvaged by Suki to be used as a makeshift helmet.
  • Clown Outfit: A mismatched, frilly clown shirt and pants taken from a defunct animatronic. Now worn by Vincent.
  • Elevator Key: A large, nasty-looking key held by Supervisor Quill, required to operate the freight elevator to the workshop floor.
  • Fine Bottle of Liquor: A bottle of high-quality liquor that Nabi used to bribe Supervisor Quill for access to the upper floor.
  • Necromancer’s Claw: A magical claw wielded by Clementine. It has a chance to inflict fear on those it strikes.
  • Phylactery (‘the flackie’): A cursed item that the party needs to destroy. It is the primary reason for their infiltration of the facility.
  • Shipping Manifest: A clipboard found in the warehouse area detailing recent shipments. It is valuable intelligence, potentially worth 25 shillings.

LOCATIONS:

  • Office Floor: A sterile, corporate-style floor filled with a cubicle farm, a supervisor’s office, and a warehouse area. It smells of paper, ink, and a faint rot.
  • Registration Center: A room on the workshop floor, stained with blood, where technicians perform involuntary cybernetic modifications on others.
  • Workshop Floor: A chaotic and loud repair shop where cyborgs work on various animatronics. The air is thick with the smell of grease, bile, and burning metal.

QUESTS:

  • Destroy the Phylactery: The party must find a way to destroy the cursed phylactery to free someone from its influence.
  • Evade Silence Finch: The party is wanted for murder and must avoid capture by Detective Silence Finch, who holds legitimate arrest warrants for them.

PLAYER CHARACTERS

  • Clementine: A tiny and bitter prisoner who is a master of stealth. He moves unseen through the shadows, often attempting to pilfer items or break locks while the others cause a distraction. He is resourceful, using makeshift shields and switching weapons to suit the situation.
  • Nabi: The self-proclaimed Baron of Rookery, a tall and imposing figure who wields a halberd. He is pragmatic and ruthless, identified as a multiple murderer with a valid arrest warrant out for him. He often takes charge, whether through intimidation, bribery, or violence.
  • Suki Botalisi: A small rat-man, about the size of a ten-year-old child. He fights with his natural claws, which have a chance to inflict disease upon his foes. He now wears a helmet fashioned from the head of a destroyed animatronic bear.
  • Vincent: A tall, morbid, and depressed character with a gravedigger’s aesthetic. He recently abandoned his old rags in favor of a mismatched clown outfit salvaged from a defunct animatronic. He wields a longsword with deadly efficiency.
